Interactions Between Insect Stress and Drought Stress

Interactions Between Insect Stress and Drought Stress

Desireè Wickwar

How does drought stress in plants impact insect outbreaks and the severity of insect damage? What can we do when drought and insects combine forces to try to take down our plants? Desireè Wickwar, IPM Program Manager at the University of Idaho, will explore the interesting (and sometimes complex) interplay between insect stress and drought stress and highlight the mechanisms that cause these stressors to amplify one another. She will also present practical strategies to reduce insect-related plant damage even when water is limited.
